Doris Kelly

Doris Kelly, age 93, longtime resident of Norfolk, VA, and recently of Providence, RI, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 17, 2023. She was the beloved wife of Michael J. Kelly, Jr. and the daughter of the late Esta M. Byrnes (Gibney) and Joseph L. Byrnes, DDS. She was also predeceased by her brother John F. Byrnes. She is survived by nine nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Doris was born in Pawtucket, RI and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1947. She then attended and graduated from the Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. She worked at various medical facilities around the country as an RN.

Doris was a devoted Navy wife who enjoyed many pastimes and hobbies. She was an avid golfer and member of the Eagle Haven Golf Club, as well as a longtime member of the Little Creek Chapel Altar Guild and a Meals on Wheels volunteer, all in Norfolk, VA. She enjoyed sewing and cooking and was a world traveler and sports enthusiast.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 28, 2023, 10:00 am, at the St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Roman Catholic Church, 18 Baltic St., Attleboro, MA. Interment will be private at the request of the family.
