Jean Harding Obituary

Jean Jensine (Lemos) Harding, 86, of North Attleboro, MA passed away on December 5, 2022, with her family by her side.

Born in New Bedford, MA on April 16, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Frank S. and Ruth Viola (Grew) Lemos. Jean was raised and educated in New Bedford where she was a 1954 graduate of New Bedford High School and was a 1956 graduate of beauty school.

She moved to North Attleboro in 1966 and resided in that community until moving to Plainville, MA in 2019 to live with her daughter.

Jean is survived by her two children: Jensine B. Quealy and her husband, Charles T., of Plainville, MA and Kyle D. Harding and his wife, Erin R. (Buckley), of North Attleboro, MA. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Kelsey Simm and her husband, Eric; Matthew Quealy and his wife, Kate; Maggie Quealy and her finance, Matt Hall; and Aidan, Owen and Dillon Harding. She was the great-grandmother of Connor, Charlotte and Ethan Simm. Jean leaves her former husband Robert Elton Harding of New Bedford, MA.

She worked for a few years as a clerk at the Foxboro Company but spent the majority of her working time employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a clerk for disability benefits and was the friendly over-head voice of JC Penney in North Attleboro for more than 15 years.

Jean was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, Attleboro.

Following her retirement, she was a volunteer at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. In 2017, she was honored by the Sun Chronicle newspaper as one of the twelve "True Santas" in the greater Attleboro area for her tireless volunteer activities. She summed up her reward for volunteering by stating, "Volunteering is a good way to say thank you and give back to the community, plus you make a lot of people happy."

She touched the lives of many both at Sturdy Memorial Hospital and as a Girl Scout Leader. Jean's favorite holiday was Christmas and very much loved the beauty of flowers.

Jean was immensely proud of her family. She was an ardent fan of any team that her grandchildren were playing on, sitting in the stands ringing her signature cowbell. She leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories and many dear friends.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend Visitation Sunday, December 11, 2022, from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.

Jensine & Family,
Every year at Christmas I place a delicate red ornament with the year "1974" in glitter on my tree. You gifted them to each member of our class that year. I always think of you when I unwrap it from its tissue. I'm so sorry for your loss of your beloved mother. I will say a special prayer for her when I hang it this year. May her love & light continue to shine in all of your lives. Thank you for that ornament. I cherish it. You make people happy too.

To Jensine, Kyle and your families,
I am so sorry for your loss. I have so many wonderful memories of Mrs. Harding growing up and was always happy to bump into her over the years to catch up on what was happening in her life. She was so proud of her grandkids and loved talking about their sport success. She really knew how to live a good life and told us how she went white water rafting and zip lining in her later years, always up for adventure! I feel truly blessed to have known her all these years and hope the memories of her laughter help you all during these difficult days.
Love, Lynne (Linwood to your Mom ) and Al Poskus
