Joan Willis Obituary
Born on March 17, 1932, in Pawtucket, RI, Joan was a resident of Attleboro, MA for 55 years before moving to Wrentham, MA in 2023.
A talented seamstress, Joan retired from Sturdy Memorial Hospital after 11 years of service, having previously worked in the Attleboro jewelry industry for 25 years. Her hobbies included reading, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, word searches, and a good game of croquet. Early in life, Joan was trained in dance and performed many times at the USO's during WWII. She rediscovered her passion for dance at Maples Nursing Home, where she participated in all the daily activities.
Joan is survived by her loving children, Richard Winslow Durant and his wife Martha, of Virginia Beach, VA, Joanne Almeida of North Attleboro, MA, Lynn M. Woodward of Attleboro, MA, and Robert Durant and his wife Elizabeth, of North Attleboro; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Willis; son, James Durant; father, Arthur Meunier; mother, Lillian Mae (Smith) Rudvilowich; and sisters, Jeanine Shaw and Phyllis Flaxington.
Joan's family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to all the staff at Maples Nursing Home who loved and cared for her so well; she was truly happy there. Joan's most cherished company was her family and friends at River Court, all the residents and activities and on the Jamesport floor at Maples Nursing Home. Her family always came first, and she could be counted on in any situation.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, October 10, 2025, from 4 - 7 p.m. at Duffy-Poule Funeral and Cremation Services, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro, MA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main Street, Attleboro, MA.
Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers Joan's family asks donations to be made to Alliance Health at Maples, 90 Taunton St. Wrentham, MA 02093. Please make checks payable to "Resident Activity Fund and Hairdresser" with, In memory of Joan Willis, in the memo.
