John Ventura Obituary

John Almeida Ventura passed away on March 12, 2025. Born on the beautiful island of São Miguel, Portugal, on July 17, 1936, John moved to Attleboro, Massachusetts, where he resided for most of his life.

John was a true renaissance man, known for his talents in gardening, strumming the guitar, and playing the harmonica. His woodcarving skills were exceptional, and he had a deep love for country western music and John Wayne movies. He was a member of the Balfour Gold Dusters and served nine years in the Army National Guard, a testament to his dedication and service to his community and country.

John is survived by his three children: Debra A. DeYesso, of North Attleboro MA, David A. Ventura and his wife, Jackie of South Attleboro, MA, Angel M. Caito and her wife, Donna of Attleboro, MA; his sisters: Mary Marquis and her husband Ernie, of Attleboro, MA, Dolores Raposa and her husband Manny, of Attleboro, MA; 6 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Joan P. Ventura and his parents, John and Mary Ventura. His family will remember him as a man of many talents, but most importantly, a loving and caring father. In the words of John Wayne, "Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway." John embodied this spirit throughout his life, meeting challenges with courage, and inspiring those around him with his resilience.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, March 17, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Coyle Drive, Seekonk, MA. Burial will follow in St. Stephen's Cemetery, 683 South Main Street, Attleboro, MA.

John's family would like to thank the wonderful staff at HopeHealth Hospice & Palliative Care, especially the nurses: Cassie, Alexandra and Crystal. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Stein, Dr. Cohen, Diana, Maureen and all family and friends who have shown support at this most difficult time.
