Kenneth Graves Obituary

Kenneth V. Graves, 86, of Wrentham, passed peacefully on July 20, 2022 in Milford Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of Sarah Jane (Leavitt) Graves.

Born in New York City, NY on July 15, 1936, he was a son of the late Asa and Mary Lee (Vance) Graves. Kenneth received his Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University and his Master's Degree from Villanova.

Ken was a longtime active member of the Original Congregational Church in Wrentham. He enjoyed staying active and was an avid runner during his life, completing several marathons, including Boston. He enjoyed participating in the Senior games and getting out on the tennis court with friends. Ken was fascinated by genealogy and researched his family history, published a newsletter and hosted a website for his family to have access to the information.

In addition to his wife Sarah, Kenneth is survived by two daughters; Susan Poe of Upton, MA, and Sheryl Graves of Winooski, VT, and three grandchildren; Morgan, Devon, and Hannah Poe.

He was the brother of the late Howard Graves.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at 11 AM in the Original Congregational Church, 1 East Street, Wrentham. Burial will follow in Wrentham Center Cemetery.

Susan , I am so sorry to hear of your mom and dad´s passing . So very shocked over your dad especially . I took care of your mom for quite a while . I truly looked forward to visitng her and always enjoyed talking with your dad as well . Your mom and I would laugh a lot playing cards and taking long walks in both neighborhoods . She was a joy and your dad was such a patient and devoted care giver to her . My sincere condolences to you and Cheryl . They will continued to be sorely missed . Joanne Patch from Visiting Angels

Ken invited me to join the Men's Chorus at the Original Congregational Church and we became good friends. One of the nicest, and most interesting people I've ever known. God bless him.

Kenneth was a longtime friend of my grandmother Martha Graves Mallinckrodt and corresponded before the age of the Internet about Graves genealogy. He was a link to the past for me and he will be sincerely missed.

Sorry ... never do a text in a rush. I mistakenly texted the name Ron instead of Ken in my Comment !!!
I would like to add what a great man Ken was as the Founder of the Graves Family Association.
He opened a lot of avenues in the Graves Genealogy field for exploration..

I learned today the passing of a very good man; sad news, which spurs my undying appreciation for Ken's dedication to Graves Family Organization. Ken ran a good race, and I am sure that he will continue as an inspiration to many. Thank you for ancestry work with my mother and me... I am sure Heaven will keep you, Ken Graves. Always, Deb

Somehow I didn't expect it. Ken has been a key genealogy fixture for so many years. Thank you, Ken, for the patient, precious work you did. Because you did it, Grave(s), Greave(s), etc., research was always as well done as possible to whoever wanted it.

I called him many years ago, asking questions, and he was willing to provide answers. A lovely conversation. We were both still in the process of making sense of it all. Of course, you, Ken, provided everyone who wanted to learn whatever we could use. Starting with my printouts of his essential "Captain Thomas Graves, 1608 Settler of Jamestown, Virginia and His Descendants (ca. 1580-2003). I'm still pouring over it, making changes as has become necessary. Genealogy is quite a work in progress.

Now, Ken, you can ask all the questions you still were working on and pondering. Enjoy your new life in your renewed state!

I am just learning about Ken passing away and am very sorry to learn that Ken had passed away. He has been most helpful in my journey in establishing my Graves family´s genealogy back to Captain Thomas Graves. He first corresponded with my youngest sister Bonnie before she passed away in 1999. Ken helped keep my pledge to my sister Bonnie to validate her Graves research. I can´t thank Ken enough and send my prayers sympathy for his family during this time.

Ken gathered information on all the Greaves and Graves families in USA and abroad and THe Graves Family Newsletter was the most complete Graves genealogical data base world-wide. He made use of DNA research to link USA and English Graves families. His base is irreplaceable. I met him once in Cambridge, MA and have corresponded many years with him. He was a great man.
