Richard Bergman Obituary

Richard Algot Bergman passed away on May 13, 2023, at Blaire House of Milford at the age of 97. Richard was the beloved husband of Josephine A. (Clerici) Bergman for over 74 years. He was born in Norwood on March 26, 1926, son of the late John Algot Bergman and Selma Adolphina (Idman) Bergman. He and Josephine lived in Wrentham for over 50 years and raised seven children. Richard is survived by his wife, Josephine, his son John and wife Marcia of Connecticut, daughter Marcia, son Richard Jr. and his wife Marie, daughter Anita and her husband Stephen Quinn all of Wrentham, son George and his wife Beth and daughter Claudia and her husband Raymond of Attleboro. He was predeceased by his daughter Lisa Marie Bergman Martino, his parents and his siblings, Bernard, Sylvia, Nancy, Jane, George (Buddy) and C. Ronald. He is survived by his grandchildren Jon, Shane and Nathan Quinn, Rachel (Bergman) Davenport, John Bergman Jr., Joseph Paul Martino, Nicole and James Parah, Stephanie Bergman, Julie (Bergman) Jackson and Ryan and Michael Bergman and great grandchildren: Hunter and Harkin Davenport, Kennedy and Rowan Quinn, Rae-lynn Cifizzari, Jolie, Lainey, Phoebe and Chloe Parah and Elizabeth Jackson. He is survived by many nieces and nephews and his brother James Clerici of Walpole.

A proud WWII veteran, Richard served in the Army as a Corporal in the Pacific, specifically in the Philippines as a Rifleman and Medic as part of the 25th Infantry Division Tropic Lightnings campaign of operations.

After the war Richard worked for Pondville Hospital as a carpenter, painter, and foreman until his retirement. He rehabilitated and renovated the two-family farmhouse on Geordan Avenue which he bought at auction and made his home for over 50 years.

Richard loved the little town of Wrentham and proudly served as Veterans Agent for the town, Adjutant, and Chaplain for the local VFW. He served on the committee to celebrate Wrenthams 300th birthday. Richard was a proud member of the American Legion and Lions Club. He always marched in the Memorial Day Parade and helped recruit veterans of all wars to march alongside him and participate in Veterans Day Activities. His proudest moment was to serve as Grand Marshall of the Memorial Day Parade in 2019.

The family wishes to extend our gratitude to the staff at Blaire House of Milford and New England Hospice for their wonderful care.
