Shirley McGuire Obituary

Shirley McGuire, 75, of North Attleboro died May 28. She was the beloved wife of Robert L. McGuire Jr. Shirley was the daughter of Helen Kary and the late Leonard Kary.

Raised in Providence, RI, Shirley graduated from Hope High School in 1964, and received her Bachelors Degree from Rhode Island College in 1969.

She was a longtime teacher in Attleboro and involved in various sororities and community service projects.

Anyone who knew Shirley knows that she was involved in the community and loved a good time. She was a 30-year member of the Lambda Pi and Theta Beta Chapters of Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority where her passion of community service was evident. Shirley held all chapter offices as well as Phi Province offices.

Shirley was an active volunteer at Lenore's Pantry, volunteered at many flu clinics, animal clinics and was an ardent supporter of Homes For Our Troops along with many other worthy organizations.

Shirley was also a member of the Fun Seekers Travel Group with her husband, and enjoyed various outings with the Coffee Beans, the Live Wires and luncheons with the Rhode Island Girls Birthday Group. She was also an avid golfer in the Tuesday Morning Ladies League at Chemawa Golf Course. Shirley loved to travel with friends throughout Europe and the U.S., and adored her favorite chef LEO (Lets Eat Out).

Shirley was a fighter, having beaten Hodgkin's
Disease in the early nineties, and breast cancer in 2019.
Unfortunately the deck was stacked against her this time, as she had to overcome several min-strokes and pancreatic cancer.

Survivors are her daughter, Kristen Andrade of Cape Coral, FL and sons Bryan of Colorado Springs, CO and Matthew (Traci-Lyn) of Coventry, RI; her grandsons Ryan and Colin of Colorado Springs, CO and granddaughter Aubrey of Coventry, RI.

Shirley was the sister of Kenneth Kary of Redondo Beach, CA and Nancy Brown (Howard) of Warwick, RI,
And Aunt to Lori Beagan of Warwick, RI, Christopher Brown of Bradford, NH and Patrick McGuire of Foxboro, MA.

Visiting hours will be held at Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro on Sunday, June 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. followed by a memorial service immediately following visitation in the funeral home at 7 p.m.
