Elwonda Heatherly Obituary
She attended schools in both Ava and Exeter, graduating high school from Ava High.
She married her true love, "her curly red-headed man" on Dec. 23, 1950, at age 17 and they were married for nearly 69 years before his passing in 2019.
To this union were born two daughters, Patty Spott and Elaine Oh.
After moving the family to Exeter in 1955 she worked for Paragon Cleaners for 20 years. At the age of 40 she returned to college to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse, graduating second in her class.
Working in the obstetrics department at the Exeter Memorial Hospital was the pinnacle of her working career. She was then employed by Kaweah Delta Health Care until she was 77.
Elwonda passed July 11, 2024 and leaves her loving family behind: daughters; grandchildren Heather Medina (Lucas), Christopher Journey (Deanna Canepa), Katrina Schoenwald (Brett), Marissa Cordes (Ryan) as well as 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by great-grandson Nathan White.
Viewing will be held Wednesday, July 17 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Evans Miller Guinn Chapel, 425 N. Kaweah, Exeter. Celebration of life will be at the Farmersville Free Will Baptist Church, 239 S. Dode, Farmersville, CA 93223, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 18. Private interment to follow at Exeter District Cemetery.
Donations in her memory may be made to her beloved Farmersville Free Will Baptist Church. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.evansmillerguinnchapel.com. Arrangements entrusted to Evans Miller Guinn Chapel.
