Lowell Mawhiney Obituary

Lowell James Mawhiney of Exeter, Calif. passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023. He was born on Aug. 13, 1942 in Exeter, Calif. to Leroy and Leera Mawhiney. Lowell joined the Tulare County Sheriff's Department in July 1965. He went on to serve 32 years with the Sheriff's Department as a detective, K-9 Officer, Resident Deputy and Search and Rescue. After his retirement with the Sheriff's Department, he joined the reserves for another 20 years.

Lowell was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years in 2007, Ruth Mawhiney, and his parents. He is survived by his sister, Carolyn Aiello, his four children Cindy Grim (Raymond), Peggy Baughman (James), Steven Mawhiney (Stacy), and Paul Mawhiney. He also had eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two more great-grandchildren on the way. He is also survived by two nephews and a niece.

There will be a memorial service held at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023 at the Exeter Memorial Building, 324 N. Kaweah Ave. in Exeter, CA 93221. A reception will follow. Arrangements are being handled through Smith Family Chapel in Exeter, Calif. Online condolences may be sent to the family through smithfamilychapel.com.
