We have lost a jewel. Dr. Jenkins has left her mark in many places in South Carolina. She was a strong advocate for documenting the history of Black people, especially in the Orangeburg area. She will be missed.

I offer my sincere condolences as well as deep gratitude for Dr. Barbara Jean Williams Jenkins who has left an indelible mark on the canvas of life. My life has been blessed and enriched through her and her mother, the late Mrs. Johnnie Sartor Williams, who was my fifth grade teacher at Whittaker Elementary School. Miss Johncie was phenomenal in every way as an educator. The blessing continued with Dr. Jenkins. I was blessed to serve on SCSU SACS Self-Study Steering Committee where Dr. Jenkins was not only a consummate professional, but her wealth of knowledge and institutional acumen were so valuable. I gained so much from her, for she was indeed a master. During this service, one of my sixth grade teachers, the late Mrs. Josephine Robinson Evans was also on the Steering Committee. What a blessing! Dr. Jenkins’s many contributions to South Carolina State and the academy beyond Alma Mater cannot be measured, for they are immeasurable. Her mother’s and her impact are forever with me. May Dr. Jenkins joined her dear, sweet mother Miss Johncie and her incomparable father Mr. “Nez” Williams as they sleep sweetly until the trump sounds.

At a time when words are hard to find , please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers at the demise of my dear friend, Dr. Barbara Williams Jenkins. It was my good fortune to meet and work with her for more than 30 years. We developed a Sisterly bond. She radiated from her personality a rare friendliness and charm. I enjoyed working with Dr. Jenkins. She was kind, considerate, understanding, compassionate and an all around people person. "we can never lose what we love lf we love what we lose." God bless you and keep you always.

"It´s hard to forget someone who gave you so much to remember".
Aside from being a strong, astute, beautiful woman, Dr. Jenkins presence was immediately acknowledged when she entered a room.
Soror Jenkins was always leading the way. She was my greatest mentor and friend when I was a Collegiate Advisor; and the College Director of the Learning Resource Center (Library).
A life will forever live on in my heart.
Love and condolences to the family.
