James "Jim" A. Wilsford

James "Jim" A. Wilsford, 90, a cherished father, grandfather, and renowned educator, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2024.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home Chapel. A private burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m., same day as the service at the funeral home.

With a remarkable career spanning decades, Jim served as an English teacher, Principal at Aynor and Dreher High Schools, Associate Superintendent of the Savannah-Chatham County School District, and Superintendent of Orangeburg School District Five. After retiring, he continued to impact education through writing educational books and software and contributing daily to his Gospel Lessons website. Jim's achievements were honored with numerous awards, including National School Superintendent of the Year (1989) and the State of Carolina's Order of the Palmetto (1991).

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim was a passionate cook, known for his Southern dishes and specialties like country club squash and blueberry muffins. An avid poet, he found inspiration in nature, family, and love. Jim is survived by his sons, David Wilsford and Philip Wilsford; grandchildren, Caroline and Chris Wilsford; and great-grandchildren, Marin, June, and James Wilsford, all of Paris, France. He was predeceased by his son, Timothy Wilsford, who passed in 2015 and the love of his life, Helen Wilsford, who passed in 2020.

His legacy of love, dedication, and culinary delight will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
