GLEN CARBON — Our beloved Mother Carole Louise Shaw departed this life at 2:20 p.m. on Monday, March 29, 2021 at Eden Village Retirement Center in Glen Carbon, Illinois, being blessed with 78 years.
Carole was born on Jan. 31, 1943, in Alton, Illinois, the daughter of the late Hollis L. North, and Helen M. (Kimball) North.
In 1961, Carole graduated from Alton Senior High School, and also attended Lewis & Clark Community College.
Carole was employed with Owens Illinois Glass Company, Olin Powder Mill as a Secretary, Laclede Steel Storeroom; as a clerk, and later retired from the Madison County Courthouse Circuit Clerk's office, after serving 20 years of service.
She was a member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church serving in many capacities ,including the Finance Committee, serving on the Claude Wilson Scholarship Fund, and being dedicated in fostering The Angel Tree program in the Alton, Illinois community during the Christmas Holiday season to uplift children bringing holiday cheer with gifts for children that had an incarcerated parent.
Carole was united in holy matrimony to Robert Lee Shaw on March 18, 1961, for 58 years.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories to her four children, Robert E. Shaw of Alton, Rodney B. Shaw of Los Angeles, California, Anna M. Ghounem of Manchester, Missouri, and Carla L. Shaw of Creve Coeur, Missouri.
10 grandchildren, Carletta Fielder, Alyssa Shaw, Robert W. Shaw, Maya Shaw, Aly Ghounem, Nadia Ghounem, Lyla Ghounem, Zeyad Ghounem, Austin Rogers, and Aaliyah Rogers; two great-grandchildren, Clayton Fielder, and Cole Fielder; along with a host of cousins, and close friends from Tabernacle Church; best friend from grade school, Joyce Williams of Los Angeles, California; close cousins, Charles Haynes, Gail Walker,Carol Westbrooks, Joann Woodruff, Janet Reams, Jackie Williams, Anita Sims, Darlene Woods, and Anna Maria Slaughter; nephews, Edward North, Waymond North, Edward Jr. (E.J), Kenny Shaw, and Kevin Williams; and a niece Tracy (Shaw) Hawkins.
Carole was preceded in death by her parents, Helen & Hollis North; beloved husband, Robert L. Shaw; daughter-in-law, Ione Shaw; brother, Edward North Sr.; sister-in-law, Juanita North; Grandparents, Charles & Ollie Kimball; Uncle William Kimball, Aunt Denise Kimball, Uncle Almo Haynes, and Aunt Ethel Haynes; and cousin, Patricia Kimball whom was like a sister to Carole.

I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of my dear cousin Carole. She was a beautiful person both inside and out. Whenever I came to Alton, I always made sure to visit Carole. She will be deeply missed. May God bless her children.
