Born on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1934, in South Roxana, Ill., the middle child of 13 to William and Josephine (nee Gascho) Hanfelder.

Doris married James F. Stille on July 17, 1954, he survives. Surviving also are two sons, James (fiancée, Lynne Marsh) Stille of Wood River, Ill; John (Carla) Stille of Glen Carbon, Ill.; and three grandsons, James III (Trey), Timothy (TJ) and William.

Doris's main interests were her family, including many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed entertaining at their 150 year old large country home for 35 years, which she helped to rejuvenate with many hours of work scraping old wallpaper, painting and other decorations. No matter how much work was involved, she always had time for her very extended family and helped care for many.

When she was 19, she took the train to Austin, Texas to care for her sister, Helen. After marrying Jim, she joined him in Petersburg, Va. where he was stationed in the Army. This was another trip she traveled by bus alone. She was support for her husband while raising their two sons during his journey through college in their early married life.

Church was also a vital part of her life as well as leading and serving many years on the Social Service Committee organizing pizza parties and other affairs for the boys at the group home in Edwardsville along with collections for the pantry and organizing bingo parties at the various nursing homes.

Other interests in her life were gardening and canning produce from the garden. She also had a real interest in refurbishing furniture and sewing bed skirts, etc. One time she salvaged three Queen Anne chairs from someone's trash and together she and her husband rebuilt them into two worthy chairs.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

Amen.
