Harriette Jane Wiist
Jerseyville - Harriette Jane Wiist, 84, passed away at 3:05 p.m., Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at Jersey Community Hospital, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on October 10, 1940, in Alton, Illinois, the daughter of the late Betty (Beaty) Fuller. Harriette was a lifelong resident of Jerseyville and a proud graduate of the Jersey Community High School Class of 1958. On April 11, 1959, she married the love of her life, William J. Wiist, at the First Presbyterian Church in Jerseyville. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising their two children and later cherishing the joy their grandchildren and great granddaughter brought into their lives. Harriette spent her career as a Lease Administrator with the May Company in Saint Louis, Missouri, where she worked from 1989 until her retirement in 2006. Family was Harriette's greatest joy. She adored spending time with her children and grandchildren, creating countless cherished memories. Shopping was a favorite pastime she shared with her daughter and granddaughters, and she was always ready for a day out shopping together. Harriette also loved reading, finding comfort and inspiration in the pages of her favorite books. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Bill Wiist of Jerseyville; her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and David Batty of Godfrey; her son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Deanna Wiist of Bloomington; five grandchildren, Dylan (Jessica) Batty of Brighton, Katelyn (Josh) Gocal of Saint Louis, Missouri, Shelby (Cameron) Eades of Henderson, Nevada, Kendall (Cody) Cameron of Boca Raton, Florida, and Brenna (Alec) Losinski of Astoria, New York; one great-granddaughter, Remi Batty; her sister, Barbara Ogden of Jerseyville; her brother, Rev. Edward Fuller of Cumming, Georgia; and a sister-in-law, Anne Fuller of Springfield, Missouri. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Fuller. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 9, 2024, from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville with her brother, Rev. Edward Fuller, officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church in Jerseyville, where Harriette was a longtime member.
