Jan always had a positive attitude, and she was a devoted employee to our department at Washington University. She took initiative in overcoming obstacles and finding a resolution that met everyone´s needs. One of the hardest working employees in our department. I have witnessed her going beyond the call of duty several times in over the past twenty-five plus years. Never hearing her complain (even with her illness) or any complaints about her services. She was always involved in our department activities and volunteered with our planning committees. Jan was the first one to get there (setting up) and the last one to leave (cleaning up).
I enjoyed having lunch with her through the years and listening to her share her personal stories on hunting, fishing, traveling and her grandkids. She was so proud of her family. I am blessed to have known her and call her my coworker and friend.

With heartfelt condolences.

Jan was a great colleague at WashU: always went the extra mile; dedicated to her job and loyal to the institution and knew it inside and out; always had a solution to a problem. I never got to know her in any other capacity, but I always enjoyed working with her. She will be missed.

Jan was a beautiful person. Throughout our many encounters over the years, and the countless times I saw her around campus, I have never witnessed her mistreat anyone. I've never heard her speak an unkind word to a person or speak ill or gossip about anyone behind their backs. When I would see her, she always wore her sweet demeanor in the most professional manner, every single day. I'm sure she went through things like we all do, but she never let us see it. Such strength she had. To know Jan is to know that she cared for others. She learned Spanish to improve communications and to enhance her empathy when working with the many native Spanish speakers she managed on campus. And boy did she pick it up fast. She was so smart. She worked tirelessly for the veterans as a volunteer and a friend. She had a big heart. She gave freely for others... what a blessing to have a heart like that. May the work that she has done, speak for her. She will be missed. My condolences to her family, but also my thanks for getting a chance to know her. A delightful woman of whom I only have fond memories of. Jan's family, please keep your head up. She's in the absolute best hands. Sincerely, Antwoine F

Jan was an extraordinary person who cared deeply about those around her and always went above and beyond. I first met Jan as an undergrad at WashU when she kindly and patiently partnered with a bunch of idealistic students to expand recycling in the dorms on the South 40. Several years later, I had the opportunity to work alongside Jan as a staff member to continue that work. She was a servant leader who always led by example and accomplished great things.

When I last saw Jan this fall, she was spending part of her lunch hour to deep clean the microwave in the Millbrook Building kitchen. That act embodied Jan -- willing to kindly and selflessly do things that are often neglected to benefit those around her.

My deep condolences to Jan's family, friends, and work family.

I worked with Jan for 11+ years in Facilities on the Danforth Campus. Jan was always the kindest, most helpful person that you could ever deal with. She always went above and beyond to serve others, a quality that I will always remember her for. In the coming days, weeks, and months ahead, may you all find comfort in knowing the many hearts Jan touched and left in a better place for having known her. May she Rest in Peace along side her creator in the glories of Heaven.
My Prayers to All Jan's Family!

Very saddened to hear of Jans passing. I worked with Jan as one of her vendors for several years. She was bright, funny, and full of energy. I can also say she very much cared for Washington University in looking out for its best interested. I considered Jan a friend as that's how she made people feel when you were around her. Jan was such a hard-working and kindhearted person I don't she ever said "no" to a request no matter how difficult the task she somehow made it happen. May the God of tender mercies comfort your family during this difficult time.

My deepest condolences to all of Jan's family and friends. Besides working in the Facilitates department at WU together, Jan was also someone I used for real estate needs. Jan was a selfless and tireless worker, always putting the needs of others above all else. I will miss seeing her around the office.
