JOSEPH 'JOE' MEYER
EDWARDSVILLE - Joseph E. "Joe" Meyer, 62, of peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2014, at the Relias Bonne Eau Hospice Home in Edwardsville surrounded by his loving wife and children.
Joe was born on Feb. 7, 1952, in Alton Ill., son of Mary Jo (Kellerman) Meyer-Anderson and the late Elton Meyer.
Joe graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1970, the University of Notre Dame in 1974, and then started his real estate company, Joseph E. Meyer & Associates. Joe appreciated the rich history of Edwardsville and was vested in the community through membership in the Edwardsville Rotary Club, Edwardsville Gun Club and his development of Park Plaza; he enjoyed sharing his knowledge of the area with his friends and family. He had a passion for aviation and spent many pretty days in the sky. Joe enjoyed the outdoors through fishing, trap shooting, boating and taking his grandkids exploring. He was a talented musician and displayed his talent with the Notre Dame Marching Band, the Edwardsville Muny Band, and private performances for his friends and family. He enjoyed photography, golfing and relaxing at the Lake of the Ozarks
He is survived by his wife Betsy (Newton); his six children, Emily (Terry) and her husband, Stephen Gates, Sheri (Meyer) and her husband Chris Dion, Molly (Terry) and her husband, Dennis Heepke, Jodie (Meyer) and her husband, Jason Oates, Sam Terry, Eric Meyer and his wife, Lauren (Gansner). He was adored by his seven grandchildren, Caroline, Betsy and Sam Gates, Grace Dion, Lucy and Henry Heepke, and Joseph Meyer; his mother, MaryJo Anderson; his sister, Kari (Fred) Barton and his brother, Ned (Dorothy) Meyer.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elton Meyer.
A visitation will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville on Tuesday evening, June 17, from 3-8 p.m. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Church and burial to follow at St. Boniface Cemetery in Edwardsville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Joseph E. Meyer Memorial Fund, in support of the Edwardsville High School Trap Shooting and Bass Fishing Clubs.

My Family, I am so sorry for your Loss. I didn't know Joe very well. However, I can tell you that my Grandpa Paul Meyer had the utmost respect for him. He greatly enjoyed their business bantering! My Prayers for Comfort and Peace are with you.

I will always remember Joe telling the Large Mouth Frog Joke, It makes me smile remembering it. I'm glad I married Steve for many reasons but getting to know Joe was an added bonus. I'm sad for us all that we won't have the pleasure of his company again. Love to Betsy and family.
