Joy Paul Obituary

Joy Paul
Fosterburg - Joy Ann (Scheurer) Paul, born July 11th, 1945, passed away Monday, November 13, surrounded by her family after a serious fall at home. She is survived by her husband Jerry Paul, who she married in September 1962, her children Chris (Stacey) Paul, Cindy (Doug) Williams, and Curt (Mary Beth) Paul, her grandchildren Jenny (Anthony) Tuzzo, Justin (Sarah) Paul, Abby (Ryan) Allsman, Kyle (Rachel) Williams, Tyler (Katie) Williams, Luke (Hannah) Williams, Rachel Dell Williams, and Seth Paul, and her great grandchildren Jordan Tuzzo, Danica Paul, Charlie Allsman, Cooper Williams, and Tucker Williams.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Hazel Scheurer, her brother and sister-in-law, Wandell and Pauline Scheurer, her mother-in-law, Pearl Paul, and brother-in-law, Robert Paul.
She was a civic-minded advocate for her community of Fosterburg, taking it upon herself to detail the history of Fosterburg, play a pivotal role in the creation of the Fosterburg Museum, and dedicate hours of her time to the Fosterburg Cemetery.
Joy was a fiery, hard-headed, hilarious, and truly caring member of her family. She always made sure that there were reasons for everyone to stay connected, and her legacy is her family. She loved fiercely and was the center of her family's orbit. She was the glue that held us all together. She will be remembered always with love, laughter, and a healthy amount of bossiness. She loved Jesus and we know that she has entered into his loving arms.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 16 from 4-7 pm at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights followed by a private memorial service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fosterburg Cemetery or to the Madison County Humane Society. Online guest book available at www.paynicfh.com

Her name, Joy, portrayed her life. She brought joy to many, whether making lemon meringue pie, working on Fosterburg historical facts or caring for animals. Her joy was also reflected in her family. Prayers, blessings, and peace to family and friends.

Born just about 20 days after I was born, she was my first friend and remained a faithful friend through our 78 years. We were both blessed with wonderful parents who gave us happy childhoods. We attended Fosterburg School together until our family moved away in 1956. On visits back to IL, we got together, often with other childhood friends. Joy was all about connections and fellowship and was a gracious hostess. She once arranged a huge potluck dinner for Mom and me in her lovely home as we were back for a visit.
After I retired and had moved back to Florida, she and our good friend Karen Hatcher visited me in my home. It was Joy´s first airplane trip and I think her first glimpse of the ocean. We ate, played, laughed and reminisced. What a wonderful time!
There were other visits back to IL for special occasions and reunions. I last saw her in May of 2016 when I was traveling with friends, whom she welcomed for some of her good cooking and "famous" pies.
Thank you, dear Friend, for 78 years of generous love and laughter. I shall miss you terribly, but cherish all of the memories. I am immensely blessed to have a friend like you for almost ALL of my life.
