Robert "Rob" William Hoff
Robert (Rob) William Hoff age 73, passed peacefully at 9:55 pm on Sunday, January 9, 2024 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois.
He was born on November 7, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri the eldest of two children, to proud parents Donald (Don) Arthur Hoff of Kansas City, MO and Margaret Katherine (Stough) Hoff of Terra Haute, IN. Both parents preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was his sister Marjorie (Marj) May Hoff and an unnamed infant Brother. He is now reunited with his beloved family.
Rob attended SIU Edwardsville. He also served our country for six years through the '70s in the 936th Ordinance Unit of the US Army Reserves, stationed in Wood River, IL
Rob played guitar and had a wonderful singing voice, especially when as a duet with his sister Marj. Shortly before graduating high school in Collinsville, Illinois, he and his sister Marj formed a folk group with neighbor Kathy, and they won Marj's high school senior year talent show. During college and after, they moved into performing lounge music. The final configuration of the band was a three-piece group with long term friend and army buddy Scott Adams who played washtub bass and sang back-up.
Rob worked in several vocations during his life and was also proprietor of two business in the Edwardsville area. He owned the locally famous "Hot Hoff" hotdog vending wagon and the Way Station Restaurant that was located at the north end of Main Street in Edwardsville, IL. He worked in a supervisory position at American Steel in Granite City, IL and later began a career in the low voltage systems industry working for multiple low voltage contracting and electronic security companies including Enerphase Systems, Guardian Communications, Tech Electronics, United Systems and ADT.
Rob was always upbeat and liked to laugh so he had a large repertoire of jokes memorized and ready to share. He was a friend's friend and cherished each of his friends, of whom he had many. He will be greatly missed by those who remain.
Rob's cremains will be interred on his birthday at 11:00 am, Thursday November 7, 2024 at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Glen Carbon, Illinois. There will be a brief graveside service at that time to honor his life
