ROBERT MCCULLY
GODFREY — Robert Leroy McCulley, 88, of Godfrey, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at 6:42 p.m., at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born October 18, 1928, in Hillsboro, Illinois, the son of the late Roy and Marjorie (Holmes) McCulley.
He married Joan Louise Athey on August 6, 1950. She preceded him in death on August 16, 2014.
Robert was a veteran of the Korean War and a Sergeant in the United States Army. He loved to golf, both locally and in Florida in the winter. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a loving husband and father.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jean McCulley of Bloomington, Illinois; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Mike Gillson of Godfrey; four grandchildren, Jocelyn McCulley of Bloomington, Kylen McCulley of St. Joseph, Illinois, Jennifer and Mark Mobley and Stacy Gillson, both of Godfrey; two great-grandchildren, Lydia Mae McCulley and Rowan Michael Mobley.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Rebecca McCulley.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 20, 2017 from 10:30 until the time of memorial service at 11:30 a.m. at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey with Pastor Steve Friese.
Inurnment will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with military rites performed by the Alton VFW Post 1308.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Godfrey First United Methodist Church.
Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey is in charge of arrangements.
