ROBERT "BOB" SENGER
GRAFTON — Robert Leo "Bob" Senger, 73, died at 11:28 p.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born on May 11, 1942, one of three children born of the late William H. and Elizabeth (Girrulot) Senger.
He was born and raised in Grafton, and inherited Senger's Tavern from his parents. He later moved the tavern to its current location on Main Street in 1980. He opened a second location in Brussels, Sengers Too, nearly 25 years ago.
He married the former Joyce DeSherlia on Sept. 17, 1981, in Forsythe, Missouri, and together they have been blessed with 44 years of marriage.
Bob was well known with many friends. He was very generous, with a big heart and very rarely said "no" when something was asked of him.
He reported every day to his office, "the tavern," to meet and socialize with his friends and found great happiness in the droves of people who came to Senger's to be "Sengerized," and see the many names written on the ceilings.
Bob was a truly remarkable man who truly enjoyed life and loved to have a good time and will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce Senger of Grafton; a daughter and son-in-law, Cathryn and Tim Hacker of Hazelwood, Missouri; a stepdaughter, Peggy Jackson of Grafton; two stepsons, Bobby Groves of Grafton and Larry Groves of Mountaintop, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Ashlee Fortschneider of St. Louis, Leah Gilliland of Grafton, Chris Groves of Mountaintop, David Groves and Dusty Groves, both of Jerseyville; three great-granchildren, Logan and Landon Gilliland and Josie Johnson, all of Grafton; a brother and sister-in-law, William and Marsha Senger of Grafton; and a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Narup of Mesquite, Texas.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Thomas "Tommy" Senger, who drowned on March 31, 1973, in the flood of 1973.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 2016 at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 26, with Eddie Calvin officiating.
Burial will take place at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association in care of the funeral home.

Grafton (and all) lost a true legend. Bobby was everyone's friend and a truly nice guy. Even after moving from Grafton I always made a point to stop in the tavern in hopes of seeing Bob. He always asked how things were and was never uncaring. Things just won't be the same there without him and my most heartfelt condolences go out to his family and many friends! RIP Bobby and please tell my parents hello.
