ROLAND WOLTER
GODFREY — Roland Gale Wolter, 81, formerly of Steeleville, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at his residence in Godfrey, with his family by his side.
He was born in Percy, Illinois, on Oct. 2, 1934, the son of Elmer and Marie (Bierman) Wolter.
He married Ruth Wolters on Oct. 14, 1956, in Steeleville, Illinois. She survives.
Gale worked as a carpenter for Carpenters Local 662 until retiring in 1994. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville and Resurrection Lutheran Church in Godfrey. He was a member of the United States Army from 1957 to 1963.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Dr. Scott (Marcey) Wolter of Godfrey; two grandchildren, Abigail and Aaron, and stepgranddaughter, Nora Steiner; three siblings, Betty Diercks, Norlyn (Marcine) Wolter, Merle (Linda) Wolter, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Neal Steven Wolter, and two brothers-in-law, Roland Diercks and Loren Wolters.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral home in Godfrey.
Additional visitation will be on Monday, January 25, 2016 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon at Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville, with Pastor Kenneth Tegtmeier and Parish Ministry Assistant Julie Posth.
Interment will follow at Paradise Cemetery, Steeleville, Illinois.
Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church in Steelville, Resurrection Lutheran Church in Godfrey or BJC Hospice of Alton.

Cherish all the wonderful and lasting Memories.. Gale was such a wonderful husband and Father to both His Sons and Grandchildren... Such a asset to Both Churches in Steelville and Godfrey... May he rest in Peace God Bless all of you to Carry on his ..legacy....
