TED KORNEGAY
GODFREY — Ted S. Kornegay, 83, died at 7:35 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017 at his home in Godfrey.
Born Oct. 28, 1933, in Centreville, Alabama, he was the son of Claude B. and Ruth (Miller) Kornegay.
Ted was an Airman 1st Class in the U.S. Air Force serving in Japan during the Korean War. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #46 in Wentzville, Missouri, and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Godfrey. He loved to play golf. He retired from Millers Mutual Insurance Company as Vice President of Claims.
On May 26, 1956, he married the former June Wigger in St. Louis, Missouri. She preceded him in death.
Surviving are three sons, Steve (Nancy) Kornegay of North Richland Hills, Texas, Tim (Beth) Kornegay of Bellevue, Washington, and Joel (Laura) Kornegay of Las Vegas, Nevada, seven grandchildren, Ted, Jane, Nathan, Ruthie and David Kornegay, Lisa Kring and Jenny Withrow. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Benny Kornegay, and two sisters, Janet Blankenship and Claudine Smith.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church of Godfrey. Chaplain Joel Kornegay will officiate. Burial will be at Godfrey Cemetery with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Godfrey.
Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.

I have known Ted for many years through the Methodist Church and loved seeing him at Men's meetings and conferences. He was a great guy and loved his church. He will be missed. God bless.

We knew Ted for the past few years and loved his quiet, gentle and caring spirit. He visited us in South Carolina and we were very blessed when he came. Ted will be missed but now God has another friend in heaven praising Him forever.
