Theresa Ann Schaaf
Jerseyville - Theresa Ann (Koenig) Schaaf, 75, died at 2:50 a.m., Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Calhoun Nursing and Rehab Center in Hardin. She was born on January 26, 1950, in Carrollton, Illinois, to Joseph Louis and Viola (Howard) Koenig. She grew up in Jersey County, graduating with the Class of 1968 from Jersey Community High School. Theresa dedicated much of her working life to serving others, employed as a mail carrier with the United States Postal Service, a role that suited her caring and reliable nature. She was united in marriage to William F. "Bill" Schaaf on December 19, 1970, in Jerseyville. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and the pride of raising their two children. Their joys only multiplied with the arrival of their grandchildren, who were the light of Theresa's world. Bill preceded her in death on June 26, 2013, after 43 years of marriage. A faithful member of Peace United Church of Christ in Jerseyville, Theresa gave of herself in countless ways, often behind the scenes but always from the heart. She especially enjoyed cooking for the Rotary Club luncheons hosted there, where her homemade cinnamon rolls became legendary. To many in the community, a warm roll from Theresa was more than a treat; it was a reminder of her generosity and love.
She found joy in life's simple pleasures, the quiet work of tending her garden, the camaraderie of bowling and golfing with friends, and the timeless music of Elvis Presley. Surviving are her children, Joseph William and Tammy Schaaf of Jerseyville, and Michelle Schaaf of League City, Texas; five grandchildren, Justin (Kylie) Schaaf and Haylei Schaaf and her fiancé, Kwintin Garner, all of Jerseyville and Nichelle Richards, Erynn Richards, and Alexis Richards, all of League City, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Isabella and Baylor Schaaf; and a brother, Harold Koenig of Medora. In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Bill, she was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Montgomery; and sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Joann Koenig, Barb (Bob) McDonald, and Janet Price.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, October 6, 2025, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Tuesday. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to
