Just now reading this for the first time. I remember playing Tom at the chess club back in the 90s, when I was just getting started in competitive chess. RIP.

I do not believe in my 45 years in education I have felt such deep respect for a person I have never met! After meeting with Elisabeth and reading Mr. Barnard's obituary, I can honestly say he has left a legacy that will extend many generations into the future.
Mr. Barnard never used his accident as an excuse for not excelling in multiple activities. What an inspiration for all of us!
God bless Elisabeth and every member of the Barnard family. Mr. Barnard is where we hope to be. If we follow his example, we will get there!
