Al Hunt Obituary

Al Hunt, 96, a longtime resident of Scranton, died Sunday afternoon in the Moses Taylor Hospital after a brief illness. His wife, the former Helen Johler, died Aug. 1, 1981.

He was born in Worcester, Mass., the son of the late William Alfred and Annie I. Brook Hunt. He was a member of the St. Matthew's United Evangelical Church and was on the church council. He was a graduate of Ludlow High School, Ludlow, Mass., class of 1933 and served in the Army during World War II. Before retirement, he was employed from 1936 to 1976 by Burroughs Corp., now part of Unisys. He enjoyed playing poker with his friends over the past 50 years, golfing at Lakeland until the age of 93, bowling and having breakfast at the Gourmet.

Surviving are four sons, William A. Hunt III, Scranton; Thomas R. Hunt and his wife, Mary, Huntersville, N.C.; James R. Hunt and his wife, Janet, Scranton; and Robert E. Hunt and his wife, Deborah, Moscow; a daughter, Joan E. Hunt and her husband, Hank Hooks, Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Caroline Emily Enger, Fort Washington; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Lincoln B. Hunt; and a daughter-in-law, Clara Hunt.

The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., with services by the Rev. Lester Stephenson, pastor of St. Matthew's United Evangelical Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in the Dunmore Cemetery, Dunmore. Friends may call on Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory, in honor of his wife, Helen, to the American Cancer Society, 712 S.
