Albert Burnetti, 87, died Monday morning at Oakwood Terrace, Moosic, Pa., after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Jessup, he was the son of James Burnetti and Mary Guidos Burnetti. He resided in Olyphant the past 65 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Frances Sieborowski Burnetti; and brothers, Robert, Leo and Joseph; and sisters, Mary Panetierri and Catherine Froncek. He is survived by his son, James and daughter-in-law, Deborah, of Derwood, Md.; and his grandson, Anthony Burnetti, Ph.D., of Atlanta, Ga.
He attended Jessup High School, and honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from 1952 until 1953. He was employed by Eureka Specialty Printing in Jessup, and Dutka's Market in Olyphant, and before his retirement was employed as an electrician at Mercy Hospital in Scranton.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed tinkering with cars, taking daily walks with his wife, and talking with friends and neighbors. He was always available to help friends, relatives and neighbors with projects around the house. One of his master projects was helping his son finish the interior of the family log cabin (plumbing, electrical, wallboard, installing cabinets and appliances.) His grandson credits spending many nights staring up at stars at that cabin for his minor in astronomy.
The family will hold a small private service at St. Michael's Cemetery, Blakely, for the immediate family and small group of friends, to be celebrated by Monsignor Michael J. Delaney, pastor. CDC guidelines will be followed, including social distancing and mandatory wearing of masks by all participants. A celebration of life will be posted at a later date when his cellular and molecular biologist grandson deems it safe and appropriate.
He and his wife were long-time members of St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Olyphant, and the merged Catholic Community of Holy Cross Parish. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Parish, 200 Delaware Ave., Olyphant, PA 18447. Arrangements by the John J. Turko & Sons Funeral Home, Olyphant.
