Alice Philipp Obituary

Alice Yablonski Horvath Philipp, born Oct. 29, 1932, left home on Dec. 18, 2017, to spend this and future Christmases in Heaven with the Holy Family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Horvath, in 1979; a companion, John Bingham; a brother, John Yablonski; and a sister, Mary Yablonski Washkuch Dean.

Surviving are her husband, Ray Philipp; her sisters, Theresa Yablonskl-Scott, Fran Yablonski Zielinski (and husband, Joe), Rose Yablonski Frykberg (and husband, Rudy), Carrie Yablonski-Yaninek; and sister-in-law, Loretta Yablonski.

Also surviving are her children, Mike (and wife, Noel Chibante) Horvath, Ken (and wife, Ann Healey) Horvath and Laura Horvath Keller (and husband, Mike); her stepchildren, Maryann (and husband, Ed Philipp-Mazatelli and Tina (and husband, Mark) Philipp-Wysershinski.

Her cherished grandchildren are Evan, Catherine, Sarah, Jordan, Audrianna, Mikey, Melanie, Megan, Dylan and Josh. She also has many wonderful nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Alice worked as a homemaker and a hairdresser. After her husband Louis's death, she raised her children on her own, sacrificing and giving them everything she could on her meager income. She took them on vacations, helped them pay for college and they never wanted for anything.

Alice enjoyed shopping and traveling. She would often just pick up and go visit her sisters in neighboring states, or drive to the Atlantic City casinos, She loved going to the beach, and also taking the grandkids to Knoebels. She loved playing cards with her "card club" and with her siblings.

Alice taught second grade CCD in the Throop churches for 27 years. She was a church lector for 12 years, and a Eucharistic minister for 10 years. She also taught Girl Scouts (Brownies), and was the originator of the Washington Street summer program in Throop, which she ran all on her own for several years. She and her companion John Bingham visited local children dressed as Santa and Mrs. Claus for many years.

Although Alice suffered from Alzheimer's in her last years and lost most of her memory, she never failed to recognize her faithful husband, Ray, who visited her every day, even driving through snowstorms to get there.

Alice was a beautiful and kind-hearted person who will be greatly missed.

My condolences to Alice's family. Alice was my mom's (Terry Gatto's) best friend. She was always there for my mom in good times and bad. She was a very loving and caring person who always did for others. She can now reunite with those who left before her.
