Ambrose Yanniello Obituary

Ambrose R. Yanniello, 88, of Old Forge, died Saturday at Regional Hospital of Scranton. He and his wife, the former Jean Semenza, celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on April 28.

Born in Old Forge, son of the late John and Mary Panatieri Yanniello, he was a 1941 graduate of Old Forge High School. Ambrose was a self-employed grocer, having been the owner and operator of Yanniello's Market on South Main Street in Old Forge for numerous years. It was there that he earned his reputation for delicious Italian meats. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II, most notably having been at Iwo Jima. He was also a parishioner of Prince of Peace Parish, Old Forge.

Ambrose held membership in the VFW Post 4954, Old Forge; American Legion Post 513, Old Forge; Disabled American Veterans; Old Forge Sons of Italy Gloria Lodge; and Old Forge Retired Citizens Association. Ambrose was an avid sports fan and follower of Penn State and Joe Paterno. He often could be found supporting Old Forge sporting events, specifically cheering on his grandsons, for it meant the world to him. He also enjoyed watching "Dancing with the Stars" and "American Idol," playing rummy, listening to music, primarily of his favorite artist Lady Gaga, and frequenting the casino.

Also surviving are a son, John Yanniello and wife, Cathy, and a daughter, Ann Goodall and husband, Gary, all of Old Forge; four grandchildren, John and Jared Yanniello and Gary and Tony Goodall; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Rex Yaniello, John "Dusty" Yaniello and Guy Yanniello; and four sisters, Florence Amantea, Velia Angelini, Clara Sebastianelli and Lillian Capone.

The funeral with military honors will be Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. from the Victor M. Ferri Funeral Home, 522 Fallon St., Old Forge, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Mary of the Assumption Church at Prince of Peace Parish, West Grace and Lawrence streets, Old Forge to be celebrated by the Rev. Joseph F. Cipriano, pastor emeritus. Interment services will follow in Old Forge Cemetery.

Jeannie, John, Ann and family,
I am deeply sorry for your loss and pray you find comfort and strength in each other during this difficult time.
Growing up, my mother Carol and my late father Charlie would always speak of what amazing people my Godparents were. Some of my earliest memories are of fun picnics at McDade Park with the families and of stopping by the store as a little boy where Ambro would always let me pick out my favorite candy bar. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing.
You are in all our thoughts and prayers. May God bless you now and always.
Sincerely,

April 16, 2012

Nothing said or done will fill the void that is left in our lives and hearts by the loss of such a kind, gentle and loving man. I loved him like a grandfather. I will miss hearing him call me Bella; his little pecks on the cheek; and the hard candy he slipped out of his pocket and into my hand. While broken-hearted over the loss, the memories of Ambrose will be kept alive forever as they are the heartstrings that will keep us attached. Ambrose, we know you will still be in all the familiar places with us...a baseball field, a gym, wherever. You will be looking down upon us while watching from the best seat in the house.

Our love to his family. While God has taken Ambrose home, he blest all of you for many, many years because he gave you a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. Rest in Peace Ambrose. I know that God is holding you in the palm of his hand.
