Anthony "Tony" Norman Fata, 49, of Scranton, died suddenly Wednesday at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, after suffering a heart attack. He is survived by his wife, Susan Hollar Fata of Gettysburg, as well as his four children, Alex, 27, Abigail, 22, Michael, 21, and Ryan, 13.
Born in Woodbury, N.J., son of Nancy Artabane, Clarks Summit, he graduated from Bishop Hannon High School, then attended Lackawanna County Community College Police Academy. He was a U.S. veteran having served in the United States Marine Corps. Tony was a lifelong public servant, spending most of his career with the Baltimore City Police Department. He was a loyal Red Sox fan, taking after his Papa (Norman), a huge Jimmy Buffett enthusiast, loved the outdoors and adored his dog Layla. In addition to all of those things he cherished making memories with his children the most.
Tony is survived by his wife, children and mother, as well as his sister, Christine Kobrynich and husband Jason; brothers, Nicholas Fata, and Scott Fata and wife Mariah; numerous in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Norman and Lois McCabe Artabane; and godmother and aunt, Lorraine Artabane.
The funeral will be Thursday with Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Ann Maronite Church, 1320 Price St., West Scranton, by the Rev. Antoun Youssef, pastor. Committal prayers and military honors to follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, West Scranton. All those attending are asked to go directly to the church that morning. Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Savino Traditional Funerals and Cremation Care, 157 S. Main Ave., West Scranton, Carl J. Savino Jr., supervisor.
