Brian Benginia, 61, of Scranton, passed away Thursday at Regional Hospital of Scranton surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with cancer.
A lifelong resident of Scranton, Brian was the son of the late Frank and Ann McSorley Benginia. He was a graduate of Bishop Hannan High School, class of 1979, and served the City of Scranton as a member of the fire department for more than 20 years.
Most recently, he was employed by Northeast Dermatopathlogy in Clarks Summit. Brian was an avid golfer and member of Elmhurst Country Club. He was an enthusiastic sports fan who followed the Raiders, Knicks and Mets. He enjoyed many golf trips with his friends and yearly family vacations. Brian was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be deeply missed.
Brian is survived by his daughter, Briana Gingerlowski and husband, Shawn; grandchildren, Olivia and Owen Gingerlowski; sisters, Carol Benginia; Mari Frietto and husband, George; brother, Frank Benginia and wife, Jean; an aunt, uncle, several nieces, nephews, cousins and an enormous group of close friends he considered family.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Annie Gingerlowski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul's Church. Friends may call in the church starting at 9 a.m. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
