Catherine Mattocks Obituary

Catherine M. Evans Mattocks, 96, peacefully entered into eternal rest Thursday at Tunkhannock Manor, Tunkhannock, Pa. She was the longest resident at the manor, having lived there since it became a retirement home in 1987.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robley D. Evans and her second husband, Gerald Mattocks.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Sterling R. and Louise Davis Colborn Sr. She was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and Lackawanna Business College and was a former member of Chinchilla United Methodist Church.

She worked as a dental receptionist for Dr. C.W. Taylor in Scranton and Keene's Pharmacy in Clarks Summit.

She is survived by a son, Ronald D. Evans and wife, Donna, Factoryville; two stepsons, Gerald Mattocks Jr. and wife, Clara; and Gordon Mattocks and wife, Joyce, all of Tunkhannock; a nephew, Sterling R. Colborn III and wife, Susan, Clarks Summit; several great-nephews, great-nieces, stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Sterling R. Colborn Jr.

Catherine was a loving mother and wife. Her friends knew that faith was very important in her life. She always looked for the silver lining in life and had a smile for everyone she met.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Tunkhannock Manor, as they were her extended family. A special thank you to the staff of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for all its loving care.

Friends may call at the Chipak Funeral Home, 343 Madison Ave., Scranton, today from 5 to 7 p.m., where a funeral service will be celebrated by the Rev. Betty Reilly at 7.

The funeral will be private and at the convenience of the family due to weather conditions. Interment at Evergreen Woodlawn Cemetery, Factoryville, Pa.
