Charles Glidden Obituary

Charles (Chuck) Glidden took his place in heaven on June 18, 2020. He was born on Aug. 20, 1937, in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania.

Chuck graduated from Susquehanna Community High School in 1955 and Penn State University in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry and a commission in the United States Army, going on to serve on a Nike Missile site in Limestone, Maine.

Afterward, he worked and became part owner of the Little & Nelson Insurance Agency, retiring after 49 years. While at Penn State, he met the love of his life, Linda Stoudnour, of Emmaus Pa., who survives him after 60 years of marriage.

He was predeceased by his father, Kenneth Glidden; and his mother, Ruth (Schmidt) Glidden. Also, his sister, Ruth (Glidden) Radicchi and husband, Romolo Radicchi; and two brothers-in-law, Jack Passetti and John Stoudnour.

In addition to his wife, Linda, and sister, Shirley (Glidden) Passetti (Jack's wife), he is survived by his two sons and their wives, Scott and Jeannye Glidden, and David and Robin Glidden; as well as the lights of his life, his four granddaughters – Casey (and husband, Tyler Smith), Christy, Cori and Lindsey Glidden.

Chuck, Uncle Chuck, Dad, Grandpa, doesn't matter the name, he was a valued member of his family and will always be remembered as such. Supportive, compassionate, dedicated, respected, loving - these are only some of the words his family and friends use to describe the footprint he left on this world. He was an avid Penn State sports fan, attending many home/away football games and several bowl games with Linda. They were both active co-treasurers/members of the board of directors of the Penn State Club of Greater Binghamton and lifetime members of the Penn State Alumni Association.

Some of his proudest moments were being an integral part of the Susquehanna community. Specifically, in the consolidation of the Susquehanna Chemical Engine Co. and the Erie Hose Co. into the Susquehanna Volunteer Fire Department in which he served as the first president, and to some, a valuable historian, sharing the past with our future, for 46 years. He was also a lifetime member of the Susquehanna Stonebridge Lions Club, serving as president and many years as secretary. Another very proud accomplishment was serving as treasurer on the committee that organized and built the Veterans Memorial Board in the Shops Plaza in Susquehanna. Chuck was Susquehanna Borough Secretary for many years and also a member of the Susquehanna United Methodist Church, serving on many committees, including chairmen of the board of trustees, auditor and member of the administrative board.

Most recently, Chuck was a resident of Barnes Kasson SNF and his family is very grateful to the SNF staff for providing a home where Chuck could continue an active life. In these latter years, he was proud to have the opportunity to become the first resident council president in the history of Barnes-Kasson SNF.
