Charles "Chuck" Weber, West Scranton, died Saturday at Regional Hospital of Scranton after a brief illness. He and his loving wife, Ruth Griffiths Weber, were married for more than 43 years when she died on Dec. 7, 1999.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Otto and Katharine Merkel Weber. Chuck was a proud graduate of West Scranton High School class of 1951 and a faithful member of the Triboro Community Church, Old Forge.
Before his retirement, Chuck was a purchaser at Chamberlain Corp. and was a member of its local union. A man of many talents, he loved to sing and for many years was a member of the Young at Heart Singing Group and the Down Yonder Minstrel Singers. Active in the community and affectionately known as the Mayor of Jackson Heights, he was honored to have the opportunity to serve as the president of the West Scranton Active Adult Center. Above all else he adored his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and now great-great-grandchildren.
Chuck is survived by his daughters, Linda Heckman, Scranton; Sandy Stevens, Scranton; Janice Schlosser and her husband, Kevin, Mountaintop; and Lori Hill and her husband, Miner, Albrightsville; sons, Keith Weber and his wife, Erika, Old Forge; Paul Weber and his wife, Kendra; and Gary Weber and his wife, Janice, all of Scranton; sisters, Joan Gardocki and Elizabeth Griffiths, both of Scranton; brother, William ""Bill"" Weber and his wife, Carol, Scranton; grandchildren, Morgan Weber Calafut and her husband, Ethan; Zachary, Darren, Cassidy, Jade, Tammy, Keith and Matthew Weber; Jennifer Heckman and her husband, Bayard; Renee and Tim Stevens, Kim Schlosser; Kerin Peterson and her husband, Nick; Dr. Amy and her husband, Dr. Phil Gordon; Bruce Larson and his companion, Amber; Stephanie Gombert and her husband, Dean; and Rebecca Sellers and her husband, Nate; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Taylor and Brook Thomas, Greyson Calafut, Russell and Benjamin Williams, Jackson and Emma Peterson, T.J., Phoebe, Ryan, Emily, Dean and Hope Gombert, Damien, Colin, Anabelle and Dale Sellers; great-great-grandchildren, Lukas Giannotti and Shane Thomas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Nathan Williams; sisters, Sarah Bird and Helen Weber; son-in-law, Russell Heckman; and brothers-in-law, Charles Griffiths, Donald Bird and Leonard Gardocki.
Friends may call Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Donahue Funeral Home, 303 S. Main Ave., Scranton, PA 18504. Services will be held at the funeral home starting at 11, officiated by his son, Keith Weber, pastor of the Triboro Community Church, with interment immediately following at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Chuck's name may be made to the West Scranton Older Active Adult Center, 1004 Jackson St., Scranton, PA 18504, where he served and enjoyed going; and the TCA Athletics, 100 S. Main St., Old Forge, PA 18518, where he often worked the concession stand or admissions at sporting events and was the kids' number one fan handing out newspaper clippings to all.
