Colleen Walsh Obituary

Colleen A. Walsh of Scranton died Thursday at Regional Hospital of Scranton. Colleen is survived by her husband of 27 years, Michael S. Battle; and daughter, Nora Walsh-Battle.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John R. Walsh Sr. and Rosemary Henry Walsh. Colleen was a graduate of Dunmore High School and the University of Pennsylvania before going on to receive her JD from the University of Pittsburgh.

Also surviving are two brothers, Brian Walsh, of Philadelphia; and Christopher Walsh, of Alexandria, Va.; two sisters, Mary Barbara Walsh and husband, Anthony Dalasio, of Clarks Green; and Linda Walsh, of Scranton; and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John "Jay" Richard Walsh.

A homebody through and through, Colleen was a fan of Law & Order, decaf tea and "healthy" chocolate - meaning that which included nuts. Though she struggled enormously with major depression and physical disabilities, she was able to work for years as an advocate with the Women's Resource Center, supporting domestic violence survivors. Colleen had an easy laugh and tremendous patience for the shortcomings of others; she is sorely missed.

A memorial service will be held in Scranton on the weekend of Oct. 1; in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Colleen's memory to the Women's Resource Center at wrcnepa.org.

Arrangements, Albert P. O'Donnell Funeral Home, 2025 Green Ridge St., Dunmore.

Dear Michael and Nora, Colleen was my best friend throughout law school. She was smart, compassionate and funny, a great friend. I last saw her at my wedding in 1985 when she traveled to my home in NY, to celebrate with me. So much changed for both of us, but we kept in touch and we were both expecting our first child around the same time. We congratulated each other, as we both had daughters, and we shared our joy and concerns as the girls grew. We lost contact as our lives became more devoted to our families. I thought of her again tonight and learned through the internet that she had passed on. I am deeply saddened by this news, she was truly one of a kind, and I am sorry that I no longer have the ability to talk and laugh with her, whether we were discussing law, debating religion or just hanging out eating chocolate. I am thankful to have had her in my life. A bright spirit, who will be missed. I offer u my deepest condolences and sympathy . Robin Cotler

Goodbye old friend. Michael and Nora, I was a high school girlfriend, and I always loved her humor, her quick wit, and speedy witty retorts. I vividly remember her Timothy Norbert Turtle story, and how she cleaned his little turtle bowl. Please smile and remember all of the wonderfully good times, and the love and help she gave to all.

Colleen was a good friend of my older sister. I remember her as a decent pleasant person, and she must have been quite intelligent. My condolences to all. Robert Ruane
