Cynthia Shook Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Cynthia Lee Buck Shook, 66, who departed this world on Thursday morning. She left an indelible mark on the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing her and her memory will forever be etched in our hearts.

Born in Scranton on May 3, 1957, Cindy was the daughter of the late William and Gladys Buck. Her husband is David Shook Jr. She was so compassionate and dedicated a lot of time to the welfare of animals. Her home was a sanctuary, filled with the pitter-patter of countless paws, feathers, and tails - a testament to her open heart and unconditional love she offered to every animal that crossed her path.

Cindy got so much satisfaction from listening to the Rolling Stones. She was an artist, always drawing and painting animals. She was ever present in touch with nature.

Cindy was a 1975 graduate of West Scranton High School and graduated from East Stroudsburg State College in 1979. Cindy also possessed a master's degree in special education from Marywood College. She is a retired special education teacher from NEIU 19. Cynthia possessed a rare gift for understanding and connecting with students of diverse needs and abilities.

Cindy was a member of Countryside Community Church and was active with a lot of aspects of her church. She was so excited to learn how to play guitar.

Cindy is survived by her two children, William and Valerie. Also surviving are her siblings, Brian Buck, Barry Buck and Shari Dikeman; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Countryside Community Church, 14011 Orchard Drive, Newton Twp., with services by the Rev. James Hollister, pastor. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Schultzville. Friends may pay their respects at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

Due to Cindy's love of animals, memorial contributions may be made to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Twp., PA 18411.
