Eleanor Saar Obituary

Eleanor "Ellie" Saar, 81, a resident of the East Mountain section of Scranton, died Tuesday evening in Hospice Community Care, Dunmore, after an illness. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Vincent A. Russoniello. She and her second husband, William Saar, would have celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary on July 25.

Born in Plains Twp., daughter of the late Thomas and Edna Stubbs Gruver, she was a member of St. John Neumann Parish and a lifetime member of the Waldorf Park German-American Federation. She enjoyed trips to Atlantic City.

The family would like to thank the staff and nurses from Traditional Home Health and Hospice for the excellent care they provided Ellie.

Also surviving are four daughters, Mary Jean Wolfe and husband, Tom; Angela Grow and husband, John; Carol McDonald and husband, Norm; and June Hummel; two sons, Carmen Russoniello and wife, Ruthann; and Vincent Russoniello and wife, Colette; four stepdaughters, Barbara Lynott and husband, Michael; Susan Saar; Tina Kohanski and husband, Louis; and Debbie Saar and companion, Al Palumbo; five stepsons, William E. Saar and companion, Elena Bartczak; Kenneth Saar and wife, Janet; John Saar and wife, Theresa; Jeffrey Saar and wife, Debbie; and Stephen Saar and wife, Jackie; 33 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a stepson, Lawrence Saar; and two sisters, Edna Pencek and Doris Jean Shoemaker.

The funeral Mass will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Name of Jesus Church, East Elm Street and Froude Avenue, Scranton. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call Saturday, 8:30 to 9:15, in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Traditional Home Health and Hospice, 113 W. Drinker St., Dunmore, PA 18512-1913; or to the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind, 228 Adams Ave., Scranton, PA 18503-1602.
