Irene Bernacik Obituary

Irene M. Bernacik of Scranton died Monday morning at home. She was the widow of Frederick Scavazzo, who died in 1950, and Edward Bernacik, who died in 1994.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Ralph and Augusta Genello, she was a lifelong resident of Scranton and a member of Trinity United Church of Christ. Before retiring, she worked for Nationwide Casket and Mountain View Care Center.

Surviving are three daughters, Marilyn McTiernan and Irene Dierolf, both of Scranton; and Beverly Scavazzo, Olyphant; a stepson, Ronald Bernacik, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by seven sisters, Sherri Krienberg, Wanda Sloss, Marge Wetter, Evelyn Walsh, June Krienberg, Ruth Bartos and Joan Jones.

The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Davies and Jones Funeral Chapel Inc., 135 S. Main Ave., Scranton, with services by the Rev. Harrison W. Putnam, pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ. Interment, Fairview Cemetery, Elmhurst. Friends may call today, 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may go to Hospice Community Care, 100 Williams St., Dunmore, PA 18512.
