James "Jimmy" Barrett Jr., 66, of Scranton, died Tuesday at Geisinger Community Medical Center. His wife is the former Victoria DeFazio.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, son of the late James and Mary McIntyre Barrett, he was a 1973 graduate of Pittston Area High School and recently retired from the Allied MR Unit, where he served as a supervisor. Jimmy was a member of the Minooka Lions Club and American Legion, and spent many years coaching at the Minooka Babe Ruth League. An avid sports fan, he especially enjoyed Notre Dame football and any of the Philadelphia sports teams. Jimmy loved spending time with his family, cars and listening to music from the '70s. He will be deeply missed.
While enjoying a Sunday Eagles game at "the Club" with his friends, Jimmy could be heard telling stories about his family and the simplicities in life that made everything worthwhile. Jimmy was honest, hard-working, never late, and instilled in his sons that the right thing to do is always right; even in times of great difficulty. Jimmy loved listening to the Beatles and has told the story of meeting George Harrison at a gas station more than a couple times. His kind and selfless spirit lives on in his grandchildren, whom he loved.
Also surviving are three sons, Anthony Barrett and wife, Christina, Norristown; David Barrett, Scranton; and Patrick Barrett and wife, Danielle, Old Forge; three grandchildren, Preston, Maeve and Margaret Barrett; sister, Joan Baldwin, Taylor; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Eagen-Hughes Funeral Home, 2908 Birney Ave., Scranton, by the Rev. Francis Pauselli.
