Joan Polkowski, 84, of Dunmore, passed away Sunday after brief illness, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore.
Joan was born on March 20, 1940 to the late former Helen Yurkanin and Stanley "Hula" Wojciechowski. She was a graduate of Dunmore High School and a longtime parishioner of the former St. Casmir's Church of Dunmore.
Joan loved, baking, cooking and coupon-clipping. She was famous for her homemade kalachl.
Joan loved to vacation with her family, with her favorite destinations being Wildwood and Ocean City. Never one to sit still or pass up a bargain Joan enjoyed a good happy hour at various Dunmore establishments with with her friends and family.
Those that knew Joan know her time was dedicated to caring for her friends and family, especially her late husband, Al, and her sons, the late Alex "Alby" (Jeffrey Alles) and Richard "Byrd"; and her fur grandbabies, Pixie and the late Ally.
Affectionately known as Joanie, she enjoyed a fun filled life, partying with her friends and family. Her dry wit, no nonsense demeanor, "tell it like it is" attitude will be sorely missed by all who knew her. A big part of her day was her daily phone calls to her many girlfriends (each in their own time slot), as long as it did not interfere with Days of Our Lives or the Bachelor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joan's name to Hospice of the Sacred Heart.
