Joanne Davis Gorton, 75, of Union Dale, died Thursday, Dec. 16 at Geisinger CMC, Scranton, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Gorton. The couple had been married for 58 years but together for 60 years.
Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late Thomas and Alice Jones Davis, she was a graduate of Forest City Regional High School. Joanne always looked forward to traveling to the Adirondack Mountains every August for a week of camping. She also greatly enjoyed going for rides with her husband Ron in all of the classic and antique cars that he would fix up. Joanne was an avid reader, and she enjoyed taking care of her plants (you could say that she had a green thumb). Above all, though, she had an immense amount of love for her family, especially her grandchildren.
Also surviving are five children, Ronald Gorton and companion, Dawn, Union Dale; Melanie Piotrowski and husband, Dave, Honesdale; Mary Reeder and husband, John, Union Dale; Charles Gorton, Union Dale; Clyde Gorton and wife, Mindy, Thompson; five grandchildren, Nicole Pisasik and husband, Ben; Brandon Williams; Jacob Reeder and fiancée, Kathryn Green; Sarah Gorton; and Emily Gorton; three great-grandchildren, Ava and Adalynn Tuttle; and Benny Williams-Rodriquez; a sister, Sally Kerylovicz and husband, Leo, Waymart; a brother, Edward Davis, Carbondale; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Rita Scalzo; a brother, Thomas Davis; a sister-in-law, Janie Davis; and a very special great-grandson, Brian Pisasik, who we all know is waiting anxiously to meet her.
As per her request, a celebration of Joanne's life will be held at a later date. Arrangements by the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main St., Forest City.
