John Gerrity Obituary

John Patrick Gerrity, 43, lifelong of Scranton, died Sunday at home after a lengthy illness.

Born in Scranton, son of Luke and Arlene Manley Gerrity, he attended Scranton Technical High School. He had a strong belief and trust in Jesus Christ. He was a loving father and son who had great empathy for other people's pain. His passion went toward playing the guitar and writing poetry. A well-known fellowship and his family were by his side through all his many struggles. He was loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving are a daughter, Amber Lindsay Gerrity, Scranton; two brothers, Luke Gerrity Jr. and wife, Gina, Dunmore; Mark Gerrity and wife, Cheryl, Clarks Summit; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

The funeral will be Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Strauch Funeral Home, 602 Birch St., Scranton, with Mass at 9:30 in Immaculate Conception Church, 801 Taylor Ave., Scranton, to be celebrated by the Rev. John Victoria. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday, 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen, 500 Penn Ave., Scranton, PA 18509. For additional information, directions, or to leave an online condolence, visit www.strauchfuneralhomes.com.

Gerrity Family,
I just want to let you know How sorry I am for all of you and Especially Amber for the lose of John. John fought a long hard battle and may he rest in peace now. He was a wonderful friend and we all have some very fond memories of our Johnny Boy. He was caring, helpful and a lot of fun . I will miss him but I smile at the memories I have. God Bless You All.
