John E. Hartman Jr., 79, of Scranton, passed away peacefully Friday morning surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, together of 62 years, Louise Mancini Hartman.
Born July 2, 1942, in Paterson, N.J., son of the late Elizabeth Burns-Hartman, John E. Hartman Sr. and stepmother, Helga Hallberg-Hartman, he was employed by Hackensack Roofing and was an officer and photographer at Naval Brigade in Clinton, N.J. Upon moving to Scranton, he worked for Walmart in Dickson City until retirement. John enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and sitting on the porch with his wife watching the birds, deer and bears. He also enjoyed photography, gardening, shooting pool, playing chess and talking on his CB.
Also surviving are his children, John E. Hartman III and wife, Helen, Scranton; Ursula Hartman-Egan and husband, William (Bill), Harrisburg, N.C.; Michael Hartman and wife, Maria, Dickson City; and Elizabeth Hartman and boyfriend, Raymond Mariggi, Pittston; grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth, John IV, Anthony, Anita, Laura, Alannah, Evan, Amanda, Tyler, Samantha and Brianna; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph C. Hartman; and aunt, Edna Hartman Krienberg.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 6 p.m. in the Davies & Jones Funeral Chapel, 135 S. Main Ave., Scranton. Friends may call starting at 4.

Daddy, I am still in shock. I
Today is yous and mommy 58th wedding anniversary. The first one since you were taken to your heaven home. I sleep with one of your shirts on my pillow. I am going to be making mom a pillow with one. I also put one of your favorite ones in a frame for mom. We are trying to convince mom to co.e down here for a week or 2, but you know mommy. I love you Daddy. Forever
