Joseph Madaio, 94, of Moosic and formerly of Bayville, N.J., left this world on Thursday, May 19, at Geisinger Community Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of more than 67 years of marriage, Doris Roy Madaio.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Dominick and Grace Ricciardello Madaio. Joe was a graduate of Aviation High School, class of 1946. He also proudly served our country with the United States Army and was decorated with the WWII Victory Medal. Joe lived and worked in Brooklyn, N.Y., for many years, where he was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. After his retirement, he and his wife, moved to Bayville, N.J., where they resided for 28 years, prior to moving to Moosic. Joe and Doris attended Divine Mercy Parish, Scranton.
Joe was universally loved by all who met him, especially his wife and family. He met Doris Roy, the love of his life, in Quebec, Canada. On their third date, they talked about getting married and in 1955, they began 67 incredible years together filled with love, happiness, friendship, fun and dedication to their family. Family was everything to Joe. He was incredibly proud of his three children and their spouses, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. As a father and grandfather, he was an excellent role model who set an example that will mold generations to follow. He adored his wife and loved to be with her. Joe and Doris were always the first couple on the dance floor and usually the last to leave. After he retired, Joe took up new pursuits like singing, acting and golf. An avid reader, lover of history and a man who could fix anything, Joe was a kind, generous and loving soul who will truly be missed.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by a daughter, Diane Madaio and her husband, Stephen DePalma, Lake Ariel; two sons, Michael and his wife, Barbara, Basking Ridge, N.J.; and Joseph and his wife, Susan, Tinton Falls, N.J.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His family was his greatest legacy, he showed them how to love one another and live a good life. He was a hero in their eyes.
A private blessing, military honors and interment will take place in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, N.J.
