Kenneth Quigley Obituary

Kenneth Thomas Quigley Sr. of Dunmore passed away at Geisinger Community Medical Center on Nov. 21, 2021. He was the husband of 51 years to Jeanette (Bruce) Quigley.

Born May 13, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pa., "Ken" was the son of the late John F. Quigley Sr. and Roselle (Boland) Quigley. He attended St. Raymond's Grade School and was a 1960 graduate of La Salle High School. He then attended St. Charles Borromeo Seminary and was a 1968 graduate of St. Mary's Seminary & University, Baltimore, Md. Ken continued his education receiving a master's degree from Marywood University. Ken's life took a different path when he met his wife, Jeanette, who he raised six children with.

Ken dedicated more than 50 years of his life to social work. He was the director of social work at St. Joseph's Center for 23 years; he also worked for Allied Skilled Nursing, Taylor Nursing Center and Julia Ribaudo Extended Care Center. After retirement, he continued his service work as a board member for Habitat for Humanity and for the Area Agency on Aging. He was a driver for Meals on Wheels and for the American Cancer Society. He also volunteered for Hospice of the Sacred Heart, and he served meals for St. Francis Kitchen.

Ken was a man of faith, who truly loved his family and Philadelphia sports. He was a remarkable father, "Pop-Pop" and friend to all. Ken will be remembered for his philanthropic work and his outgoing demeanor.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his six children, Kenny Jr., Dunmore; Shannon and her husband, Thomas Sheets, Dunmore; Matthew, Dunmore; Ryan, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Brendan and his wife, Karen, Honesdale; and Stephen, State College; grandchildren, Molly and Maura Sheets; sister-in-law, Kathleen Quigley; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. John F. Quigley Jr.

In keeping with Ken's commitment to others, his final act was to give the gift of life through organ donation.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-Desantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Peter's Cathedral, 315 Wyoming Ave., Scranton. Interment will be conducted at the convenience of the family at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Philadelphia.

Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

So sorry for your loss

With lots of love, Danny, Michael, and Dan Quigley

We´ve heard so much about Uncle Kenny since we were little kids. How he would hand off cookies to our dad, make milkshakes, and how he would always change diapers for all of the kids. He always had nicknames for everyone, and he showed a lot of love for all of us. Uncle Kenny was very holy and we know that he always wanted to go to church every week day. Aunt Jeannette and Uncle Kenny were so kind to our dad. Uncle Kenny was so proud of his children and grandchildren. You can see the love and kindness in all of his children and grandchildren. We remember that he would always give a helping hand to anyone in need. He had a good hearty laugh and was a very funny person - he could connect with anyone and had a great presence. We will miss him so much. Our prayers and love will always be with him and his family.
