Mabel R. Cigna, 91, a South Scranton resident, died Monday morning at Scranton Healthcare Center. She was the widow of Sam F. Cigna, who died in 1981.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Stephen and Josephine Bellen Abbott, she was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church and its Altar Rosary Society until its closure. Presently, she was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Parish. Mabel was happiest being around those she loved. She was a loving mom and homemaker, friends and family were always welcome at her house. She loved to dance, sing and especially to travel.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff of Scranton Healthcare Center for the compassionate care given to Mabel.
Surviving are three daughters, Josephine Cigna, with whom she formerly resided; Mary Ann Jolly, Richmond, Va.; and Mae Keiper and husband, Robert, Scranton; four grandchildren, Tina Profka, Maria McDonald, Stephanie Keiper and Robert Keiper; and nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Steinbacher; three brothers, Lester, Stephen and Casper Abbott; and four sisters, Grace Truncali, Adeline Galka, Gloria Cali and Sr. M. Concepta, Daughter of Our Lady of Mercy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, St. Paul of the Cross Parish, 1217 Prospect Ave., by the Rev. Scott Sterowski, pastor. Inurnment, Italian-American Cemetery, Minooka section. All are asked to go directly to church Friday morning.
