Marilyn Dunleavy Obituary

Marilyn Dunleavy of Suwanee, Ga., passed away Saturday afternoon, August 22, 2015, after a battle with breast cancer.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Martin Dunleavy; daughter, Kelly Ianniello; daughter, Casey Dunleavy; son-in-law, Dave Ianniello; and granddaughter, Hailey Ianniello. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Shannon Dunleavy.

Marilyn was born on November 11, 1946, in Scranton, Pa., to Edward and Olive Mawson. She graduated from Marywood University. She married Martin on August 1, 1970 in Scranton, Pa. She worked as a second-grade teacher at Smithtown School, teacher's aide at Tokeneke School, and secretary of the Darien Board of Education.

Marilyn was a strong individual who refused to let cancer rule her life. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2004 and it returned in February 2013. Through all of the challenges she endured, she remained positive and dedicated to her work, friends, but most of all her family. She will forever be remembered and loved as a supportive and loyal friend, mother and wife.

There will be a private memorial service. It is the goal of her family to transport her ashes to Darien, Conn. so she can be reunited with her youngest daughter, Shannon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to help her family successful attain this goal can be sent to Casey Dunleavy at P.O. Box 2116, 7596 Ritchie Hwy., Glen Burnie, MD 21061.
