Mary Romanowsky Obituary

Mary Havrilko Romanowsky, 87, of Old Forge, died peacefully Sunday surrounded by her family at the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center. Her husband, Michael "Moxie," died Dec. 26, 1995.

Born in Scranton, on June 10, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Viola Borovitch Havrilko. Mary was a 1946 graduate of Taylor High School. After graduation, she worked as a secretary for the government in Washington, D.C., and retired from Rohr Lingerie, Old Forge. Mary was a founding and dedicated parishioner of St. Stephen's Russian Orthodox Church, Old Forge. She enjoyed traveling with the Housewives Club of the Tripp Park section of Scranton and was an excellent cook and baker. After retirement, she found peace and tranquility in having a clean home and a well-kept yard. Her family was the center of her life, and she looked forward to seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters, Karen Gibson and husband, Paul, Tallahassee, Fla.; and Janet Andrejack, Moosic; a son, Paul and wife, Liz Moses-Romanowsky, Harleysville; four grandchildren, Paul Ryan and Jennifer Gibson, Melissa and Bernie Andrejack; three great-grandchildren, Mark, David and Audrina Andrejack; a brother, Paul and wife, Dorothy, Bethlehem; three sisters, Dolores Bombicca, Blakeslee; Lorraine Makusiewicz and husband, Ray, Plains; Gloria Sheridan, Moosic; nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral, which will be conducted Friday at 8:45 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor, followed by services at 9:30 in St. Stephen's Russian Orthodox Church, Old Forge, by the Rev. German Ciuba, pastor. Interment with rite of committal will follow in St. Michael's Orthodox Cemetery, Old Forge. Family and friends are invited to call Thursday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Parastas services will be at 7.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephen's Russian Orthodox Church, P.O. Box 181, Old Forge, PA 18518.
