Mary Scott Obituary

Mary Catherine (Kay) Feran Scott, age 85, of Hudson, Ohio, passed away on Feb. 18, 2016, after a 40-year battle with Parkinson's disease. She died in her home, surrounded by her loving family and her devoted husband of 61 years, Joseph, former owner of Chamberlain Corp. and Superior Fireproof Door of Scranton.

Mary Kay was born in Rosedale, Kan., on April 8, 1930, and was the adopted daughter and only child of James and Catherine Feran. She spent her childhood years in Kansas, met the love of her life at a Christmas party in December 1953 and was married the following June. She took great joy in being a wife, mother, grandmother, friend, person of faith and homemaker. She taught all who knew her how to live life with dignity and grace through all trials.

She and her family lived in Clarks Summit for eight years. While here, they were very active in planning for and obtaining funding for the construction of St. Benedict's Church in Newton. She had a special love for the disadvantaged, and was instrumental in founding the Little Christopher's resale shop in Crystal Lake, Ill., which was established to fund social justice causes at St. Thomas Parish. She also helped establish La Guarderia in Cochabamba, Bolivia, a daycare for children. Mary Kay was a person of devout faith and had a deep love of the Blessed Mother. She made many pilgrimages to the Holy Land and other shrines throughout the world. Her faith and love of children combined to fund several classrooms at Seton Catholic School in Hudson, Ohio.

Mary Kay is survived by her husband, Joseph, of Hudson, Ohio, children, Joe (Sally) Scott of Hudson; Jim (Sheri) Scott of Hudson; Mike (Beth) Scott of Hudson; Cathy (Brian) Mullins of Hudson; son-in-law, Dan (Katey) Devine of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; Mary Pat (David) DeLambo of Hudson; grandchildren, James, Pat, Amber, Luke, Janie, Mikey (Callie), Jack, Annie, Sean, Bridget, Katie, Danny, Megan, Dominic, Ted, Davy, JoJo and Tommy; her brothers-in-law, Dominic Scott, Clarks Summit; James (Marie) Scott, Clarks Summit; and sister-in-law, Terry Scott Elechko (Melvin), Dalton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Teresa Rose Devine. She planned and funded a Memorial Garden and Grotto at St. Mary's Church, Hudson, for Teresa.

A viewing was held at Redmon Funeral Home, Stowe, Ohio, on Feb. 22. A Mass of the Christian Burial was held at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hudson, on Feb. 23. Burial, St. Mary's Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Seton Catholic School, ATTN: Mary Kay Scott Memorial Fund, 6923 Stow Road, Hudson, OH 44236.
