Maury Kavulich Obituary
Born on April 25, 1962, daughter of Jane Boyd Kavulich of Scranton and the late Michael Kavulich, Maury attended West Scranton High School before graduating with cum laude distinction from Marywood College with a degree in psychology. Before college, she became a well-known waitress at Cooper's Seafood House in Scranton and, before her illness, served at Olive Garden, Dickson City.
Maury loved the arts, always enjoying museum visits, and she had a great love for animals. This beautiful soul adored and lived for her nieces and nephews, and took special care in their upbringing. She was their teacher, friend, nurse, playmate and confidant. She took great care in teaching them to succeed to the best of their abilities and to always show compassion to others. But most of all, she was their hero. Deeply loved by her family and dear friends, she will be surely missed.
She was a longtime member of St. Patrick's Parish, West Scranton.
She is also survived by her siblings, Michael Kavulich and wife, Beverly; Paul Kavulich and wife, Dawn; Cheryl Van Fleet and husband, Gary; and Robert Kavulich, all of Scranton; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her godson and nephew, Justin Kavulich.
Maury's family wishes to acknowledge the entire staff of Regional Hospital's intensive care unit, as well as Drs. Joseph Leo Jr. and Martin Hyzinski, and especially the compassionate care given by Lily and Doris.
The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. from the Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, 1605 Oram St., Scranton. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Intervention Center, 445 N. Sixth Ave., Scranton, PA 18503; or the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Twp., 18411. Visit the funeral home website for directions or to leave an online condolence.

I knew Maury from high school and was very sadden to hear of her passing. I often ran into her over the years and caught up on some of the times froms our past. She was a loving person with a big heart. I know she will be missed by many people who she touched in her life. So deeply sorry for your loss.

Maury and I met when we were young, and through out high school, just found out of her passing. George and I just want her family to know that she was one of the sweetest girls around, in the past we saw her at Olive Garden, always so kind. we will pray for her and her family, truly sorry for your loss.SHE WILL BE MISSED.

I am so sorry for the entire family & am heart-broken. I loved Maury. I loved our funny conversations that we would have while she was visiting next door at Cheryl & Gary's. I lived next to them many years ago & would visit & Maury would often be there. She loved her family. My children loved her, also. Maury was a sweet soul & a very kind, gentle person. I worked with Maury at Elby's and she worked for me at Friends and Company. I have to say she was so sweet, kind and quiet just a good person. So sorry to hear of her passing. Bless you all at your time of sorrow.

We laughed and cried together, got into trouble together, and shared our secrets and dreams. We lost touch over the years, but I thought of her often, and have even shared our funny stories with my children. I HAVE GREAT MEMORIES OF Maury I worked a lot of years with her at Coopers and gave her many rides home. She loved Rod Stewart and sang ever song(just not good!!!!)
So sorry for her death but she is in a peaceful beautiful place. Praying for all of us.
