Michael J. Captain, 94, of Mayfield, died Saturday, July 8 at Allied Terrace, Scranton. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Josephine O'Bell in 2012.
Born in Mayfield, son of the late Anthony and Catherine Pittsman Captaino, he was a graduate of Mayfield High School and went on to honorably serve in the U.S. Army. Prior to his retirement in 1991, he had been employed as a mechanic by RCA. He was also a member of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish in Jermyn.
Michael was a kind man who would do anything for anyone and could often be found tinkering in the garage fixing things. He enjoyed gardening and golfing and always looked forward to his daily coffee with the guys.
His family would like to thank the entire staff at Allied Terrace for their kindness and compassion shown towards Michael during his times of need.
Surviving is his sister, Patricia Danchak of Virginia; his niece, Ann Marie Bednarz, of Old Forge; his nephews, Charles Captain and wife Brooke, of Maryland; and Frank Manganella, of Florida; as well as nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Sam and Sandy Captain.
The funeral will be Monday with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, 624 Madison Ave., Jermyn. Interment to follow in Calvary Cemetery, Mayfield.
